How to Create and Use VPK Files for Left 4 Dead 2 Mods

What You Need
A copy of Left 4 Dead 2 installed on your computer.
The VPK.exe tool that comes with the game. You can find it in your left 4 dead 2/bin folder. Do not move it from that folder, but create a shortcut to it on your desktop or somewhere else.
A mod that you want to create or use. You can download mods from various websites, such as GameMaps or Steam Workshop. Make sure the mod is compatible with your version of the game.
How to Create a VPK File
Create a folder with the name of your mod. For example, if your mod is called "Zombie Apocalypse", create a folder named "Zombie Apocalypse".
Inside the folder, create subfolders that match the structure of the game's files. For example, if your mod contains custom sounds, create a folder named "sound" inside your mod folder. If your mod contains custom models, create a folder named "models" inside your mod folder. And so on.
Copy the files of your mod into the corresponding subfolders. For example, if your mod contains a custom sound file named "zombie.wav", copy it into the sound folder inside your mod folder.
When you have copied all the files of your mod into the subfolders, drag and drop your mod folder onto the VPK.exe shortcut. The program will create a VPK file with the same name as your mod folder in the same location. For example, if your mod folder is named "Zombie Apocalypse", the program will create a VPK file named "Zombie Apocalypse.vpk".
Delete or move your mod folder. You don't need it anymore.
How to Use a VPK File
Copy the VPK file of the mod you want to use into your left 4 dead 2/addons folder. If you don't have an addons folder, create one.
Launch Left 4 Dead 2 and go to the main menu.
Click on "Add-ons" and enable the mod you want to use by checking the box next to its name.
Click on "Back" and start a new game or join an existing one.
